03 — Why Not WordPress

Why we don't build on WordPress.

Most UK trades websites are WordPress. There's a reason: it's been the default for fifteen years, and most agencies know it inside out. The reason we don't use it is that WordPress as a stack is expensive in the places that matter to a small business — hosting cost, security upkeep, plugin maintenance, page load speed.

Static-site websites (the kind we build) cost £0 to host on Cloudflare's free tier — which is why the £15/month hosting fee is a margin for us, not a passthrough cost. They load in under a second because there's no database query, no PHP, no plugin chain. They can't be hacked the way WordPress can because there's nothing to hack.

The downside is they can't be edited via a 'WordPress admin' interface. For most tradesmen, this is a non-issue — the things that change frequently (Google Business Profile posts, contact details, prices) are managed elsewhere. For text changes on the site itself, we update it for you under the £15/month maintenance fee.

04 — Questions

Website questions, answered.

Why £350 — that's much cheaper than other agencies.

Because we build the same site for every client, with the structure pre-decided and the design system pre-built. The £350 isn't reflecting how long a website should cost to build from scratch — it's reflecting how long this specific website takes to build using our process. Other agencies charge £1,500–£3,500 because they're rebuilding the wheel every time. We're not.

What if I want more than 10 pages?

Additional pages are £35 each, added at any time. Most tradesmen find 10 pages is genuinely enough — homepage, about, six service pages, case studies, contact, plus one or two extras for location targeting. If you need more, just ask.

Do I own the website?

Yes, completely. The code lives in a GitHub repo that's yours. The domain is registered to you. The Cloudflare account can be transferred to you at any time. If you ever leave us, you take everything with you.

Can I edit the website myself?

Not via a WordPress-style admin panel — there isn't one. Text edits, image swaps, or new pages are done by us (covered by the £15/month maintenance fee for small changes, £35/page for new pages). If you're technical, we can give you direct access to the code in GitHub.

What if I already have a website?

We'd usually still recommend a new build because most existing trades websites lack the schema markup and AEO foundations we need. That said, if your current site is technically solid we can audit it and migrate the AEO work in. We'll be honest about which makes more sense during the discovery call.

What does the £15/month maintenance cover?

Cloudflare Pages hosting, domain renewal allocation, SSL certificate, automatic backups, broken-link monitoring, and small text/image updates as needed. It's essentially at-cost — we don't make significant margin on hosting, but it keeps your site protected and current.
