Service 02 · Available Now

Rank on Google. Get cited by ChatGPT. Reported monthly.

The core ongoing service. We grow your visibility in both traditional search (Google rankings, Google Business Profile, local pack) and AI search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude). Tracked monthly with screenshot evidence so you can see exactly what's working.

01 — The Background

What is Answer Engine Optimisation?

Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) is the practice of optimising your business to be cited inside AI engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude. It's the new layer of search visibility that's emerged since 2023, and most UK tradesmen are completely invisible inside it.

Here's why it matters: when a homeowner under 40 wants an electrician, they increasingly ask ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews 'who's a good electrician near me' before they Google it the traditional way. The AI engine gives them a few recommendations — usually based on what's been published online, what's cited in trusted directories, and what structured data the AI can extract from a business's website. If your business has no schema markup, no llms.txt, no FAQ pages structured for AI extraction, and no citations on the sources AI engines trust, you're not in those recommendations. Your competitors are.

AEO is the technical and content work needed to fix that. It overlaps with SEO — both rely on a well-structured site and authoritative citations — but the optimisation targets are different. SEO targets the Google ranking algorithm. AEO targets what AI engines decide to quote.

02 — The Work

What we do every month.

The exact work delivered each month depends on your tier — Foundation, Growth, or Engine. Here's what's actually done across all three.

01

AI visibility tracking

Five tracked queries run through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews on the first of every month. Screenshot-captured. Same queries, same time, every month. The line we're trying to move is visible and reproducible.

02

Schema and technical foundations

Schema markup on every page identifying your business and your specific expertise. llms.txt at the root. FAQ pages engineered for AI extraction. Every technical foundation needed for AI engines to understand who you are.

03

Citation building

Authoritative citations on the directories that AI engines actually trust — Yell, Trustpilot, Bark, plus trade-specific sources like NICEIC, Gas Safe, NAPIT depending on your trade. NAP consistency across every listing.

04

AEO-optimised content (Growth+)

On Growth and Engine tiers, two new pages of content per month, written specifically to be quoted by AI engines. Targeted at the questions your customers actually ask.

05

Google Business Profile management

GBP claimed, optimised, and posted to weekly. Reviews requested and responded to. The local-pack ranking factor most tradesmen ignore.

06

Monthly performance reports

A single PDF report every month. AI visibility screenshots, Google rankings for tracked keywords, GBP insights, call and form volumes. No vanity metrics. What changed, why, what's next.

03 — SEO vs AEO

How SEO and AEO are different — and why we do both.

SEO (the traditional layer)

Optimising for blue-link search results on Google. Targets the ranking algorithm. The goal is to be on page one, ideally above the fold, for the keywords your customers search.

Who asks for this

  • Homeowners aged 35+
  • Procurement and commercial buyers
  • Anyone who's been searching online since the 2000s

AEO (the new layer)

Optimising to be cited inside AI engines. Targets what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews decide to quote. The goal is to be one of the businesses the AI recommends when someone asks.

Who asks for this

  • Homeowners aged under 40 (and growing)
  • Procurement teams researching commercial work
  • Anyone who's defaulted to asking ChatGPT before opening Google

Most agencies still focus on SEO alone, with AEO treated as an afterthought. That made sense in 2022. In 2026 it doesn't — AI search has become the first stop for a growing share of customers, and you can't catch up by retrofitting AEO onto a site that wasn't built for it.

05 — Questions

SEO & AEO questions, answered.

How long until I see results?
Honestly: 90 days for the first measurable movement, 6–12 months for compounding results. SEO and AEO are not paid ads — you don't pay £150 today and see leads tomorrow. What you do see in month 1: foundations live, AI visibility baseline captured, GBP active, first citations established. From month 3, ranking and AI visibility shifts become measurable. From month 6, the curve gets steep. Anyone promising 30-day results is either misleading you or burning your money on ads.
What if my competitors are doing this too?
In the UK trades industry today, almost none of them are. The vast majority of UK tradesman websites have zero schema markup, no llms.txt, no FAQ pages structured for AI engines, and no presence on the AI-trusted citation sources. That's a closing window, not an open one — five years from now this won't be a differentiator. Right now it is.
Can you guarantee rankings?
No, and any agency that does is lying. Google's ranking algorithm and AI engines' citation behaviour are both opaque and change frequently. What we can guarantee is that we'll do the work consistently, report it transparently every month, and tell you honestly if results are or aren't where they should be. If after 90 days you're not seeing measurable movement, we'll have a frank conversation about why.
What's the difference between AEO and 'GEO' that I've seen mentioned?
They're the same thing with different names. AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) both describe optimising for AI engines to cite you. The industry hasn't settled on which term wins. We use AEO because it's slightly more precise — the engines are answering questions, not just generating text.
What ad management is included?
Ad management isn't included by default in any tier. It's available as an add-on on the Engine tier for clients who specifically want it. Most tradesmen get better return from SEO and AEO than from ads — ads stop the moment you stop paying, where SEO and AEO compound. We'll be honest about whether ads would help your specific business.
How do you actually track AI visibility?
We agree five tracked queries with you at the start of the engagement — the queries your customers actually ask. On the first of every month, we run each query through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini using fresh sessions (no chat history, no bias). We screenshot every result. The screenshots and a written commentary on what changed go into your monthly report. Over time you can see the trajectory clearly.
